Official Statement on World AIDS Day—December 1, 2025

CeSAHA joins the global community to commemorate World AIDS Day 2025 under the theme “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.” We stand with the millions affected by HIV, honour the lives lost, and reaffirm our belief that ending AIDS requires a whole-of-society commitment.

Evidence from UNAIDS and WHO shows that progress remains uneven, particularly in communities facing poverty, weak health systems, stigma, and limited access to prevention, care, support and treatment. These are systemic issues, and systemic problems require systemic solutions.

CeSAHA calls for:

  1. Strengthened primary healthcare systems capable of maintaining essential HIV services during emergencies.

  2. Increased investment in prevention, testing, and treatment, especially for adolescents, women, and key populations.

  3. Community-led responses recognizing that meaningful progress happens when those most affected are empowered to shape the solutions.

  4. Integrated, people-centred care, leveraging data, technology, and innovation to close gaps in access and outcomes.

  5. Collective action from governments, the private sector, civil society, and communities to address the social and structural drivers of HIV.

CeSAHA remains steadfast in advancing universal health coverage and health equity across Africa. We firmly believe that transformation is possible when societies mobilize around shared humanity, shared responsibility, and shared commitment.

Today, we reaffirm our pledge: No one should be left behind. No one should die of preventable or treatable diseases. And no health challenge, HIV included, should ever be determined by inequality in whatever shape or form.

Together, we can overcome disruption.

Together, we can transform the AIDS response.

Together, we can build a healthier, more just future for all.
